Itinerary Overview
Enjoy 7 Days Rwanda Tour to visit 3 National Parks in Rwanda- The Land of a Thousand Hills located in the heart of Africa. The main areas of interest on this tour include Volcanoes National Park for a guided gorilla trekking adventure, chimpanzee tracking plus canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park a home to 13 primates with over 500 chimpanzees, 400 colobus monkeys, 310 birds; Akagera National Park for day game drives and launch trip. Your primate and wildlife tour in Rwanda begins and ends in Kigali.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer To Akagera NP, Evening Guided Game Viewing
Rise up early for breakfast, after meet the driver guide for briefing and pick up ready to begin a short distance road trip of about 2-3 hours to Akagera National Park in the Eastern side of Rwanda. First, you will go city tour in Kigali with visits expected to be made to Kigali genocide sites, Kimironko local market and you proceed to the Eastern side to Akagera, check in at the lodge where lunch will be provided. In the evening, Akagera will treat you with unforgettable guided game viewing experience to see lots of wildlife while they rush back to sleep.
Day 2: Akagera Day Game Drive, Launch Cruise Experience
Have breakfast, after begin an early guided day game drive for 2-3 hours and in a 4×4 drive vehicle enjoy excellent view of elephants, rhinos, zebras, buffaloes, leopards, lions, the Masai giraffes, impalas, roan antelopes, topis, birds, warthogs, and others. Return from savanna plains to have lunch, relax then connect to Lake Ihema for an afternoon guided launch/boat cruise 2-3 hours’ experience of viewing hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds, etc.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive, Transfer To Nyungwe Forest NP
Leave the lodge for an early guided game drive to see lots of wildlife in Akagera and after, you will drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park which is found in the Southern side of Rwanda. Over 13 primate species, 310 bird species, floral species all live in Nyungwe Forest NP and while here, you will embark on chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.
Day 4: Nyungwe Chimpanzee Tracking, Canopy Walk
After breakfast, get to Uwinka for briefing on chimpanzee trekking rules and for the park official to allocate the park guide to lead you through the 2-4 hours’ chimp trek. At 8:00am, you will be led through Nyungwe Forest to look for chimpanzees in their habitat and upon locating them, you will be allowed to have 1 hour for photography, learning about their behaviors.
Afternoon refreshment and relaxation will be at the pre-booked lodge then you go enjoy a canopy walk, about 2 hours. A guided canopy walk in Nyungwe allows you see many more primates, birds, the forest canopy and surrounding then return for evening refreshments, dinner and overnight sleep at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer To Ruhengeri
Breakfast early, after meet your driver guide in Rwanda for transfer to Ruhengeri Volcanoes National Park. En-route to Ruhengeri, enjoy view of Lake Kivu and arrive at the park early to check in, have refreshments, dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking In Ruhengeri Volcanoes NP
Gorilla trekking will be the main experience to be enjoyed in Volcanoes NP and starts early at 8:00am after briefing and allocation of gorilla families, park guides. This primate trek takes 2-6 hours, inclusive of 1 hour of close encounter, learn how gorilla behave, take pictures then get back for relaxation. In any case you still have energy, we go visit the ex-poachers in Iby’Iwacu cultural village, enjoy thrilling cultural experience which includes learning about Rwandese cultures, practices, traditions, entertainment from dances, music performance, etc
Day 7: Departure From Ruhengeri
Begin early the day with breakfast, after, leave Ruhengeri for Kigali capital city 2-3 hours’ drive in your 4×4 vehicle. Drop off at the place of residence/hotel or Kigali Airport for departure- marking the end of 7 days in Rwanda.
