3 DAYS DIANNE FOSSEY HIKE & MUSANZE CAVES TOUR

Itinerary Overview

With only 3 days, experience an amazing historical tour with a hike at the Dian Fossey’s tomb and Ibyâiwacu cultural village plus visiting Musanze caves. Close to Volcanoes National Park; is Dian Fossey’s tomb and Musanze cave. The park is also home to the magnificent mountain gorillas and golden monkeys plus other wildlife.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali City Tour &Transfer To Volcanoes

Upon arrival, the driver guide will pick you up from the airport or any agreed location and brief you about the itinerary. You will then drive and embark on your Kigali city tour experience where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial Centre, experience life at different local markets for fresh fruits, vegetables and arts and crafts and the presidential palace. After this half-day city tour, enjoy a hot lunch and buckle up for a 2 hours to Volcanoes National Park. 

 

We shall arrive in the evening and after checking in at the lodge we shall go to Ibyâiwacu cultural village where we shall enjoy the traditional touch of Rwandan culture displayed through songs, names, dances and story tales. The village also has craft shops from which you can purchase souvenirs. We shall call this a day, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Hiking Mountain Karisoke

Wake up early in the morning and enjoy a delicious breakfast and transferred to Kinigi; the park headquarters with our picnic lunch boxes for a briefing about the hiking experience. At this point, you can hire porters who will help you carry your back bag and you will be offered a walking stick before you start the hiking. You will go through different vegetation and encounter different wildlife such as forest elephants, golden monkeys, birds and if lucky gorillas but you will not be allowed to stop since you will be on a different package. After getting to Karisoke research centre, you will visit the graveyard of Dian Fossey who was an American researcher and was killed and buried in the park on 26th/December/1985. Dian Fossey was buried near Digit; her favorite gorilla. You will then go back at the starting point and meet your driver guide and drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation dinner and overnight. 

Day 3: Musanze Caves & Departure

Wake up to a tasty breakfast and after prepare to check out and drive to Musanze caves to explore the beauty of this great hidden gem. The cave is a result of volcanic action that worked on the area of Mount Sabinyo and mountain Bisoke the cave; believed to have been formed about 60 million years ago with a connection to the Albertine rift valley. You will be given a guide who will take you to different corners of the caves. After this experience, we shall embark on our journey to Kigali to mark the end of our 3 Days Dian Fossey Hike 7 Musanze Caves Tour.
