Itinerary Overview

This 10 Days Uganda Luxury Primate Safari mainly offers primates in the thick forests of the country. Enjoy beautiful views in the countryside as you reach Uganda’s hidden gems. Kibale Forest national park is a rainy forest and home to over 1500 Chimpanzees. Here you have an opportunity to see the chimpanzees close up with our closet cousins in the jungle. 

The primate tour also takes us to the misty forests of Bwindi Impenetrable NP to encounter the magnificent Mountain Gorillas. We shall continue with our journey to Mgahinga Gorilla NP for golden monkey trekking. While on this safari, we shall visit Mabamba Wetaalands for Shoebill Stork Excursion, enjoy a boat cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel and a community encounter among other activities. 

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival At Entebbe Airport

When you land at Entebbe Airport, the driver will welcome you and and transfer you to a Hotel in Entebbe ahead of your safari. While in Entebbe, we can visit art and craft markets and take a walk in the botanical gardens or relax at your hotel or visit art and craft markets, shopping malls or food markets.

Day 2: Morning Shoebill Stork Excursion, Transfer To Kibale Forest National Park

After an early breakfast, we shall start our journey to Kibale Forest NP which is also Uganda’s primate city. It is a long drive of about 5hrs so we shall have lunch in Fort Portal town and continue for an evening around the craters. Along the journey we shall go through typical African village setup in the far countryside and tea plantations. In the craters, we have a chance to spot monkey species such as black and white colobus, red colobus, red tailed monkey and grey cheeked mangabeys.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Habituation Experience

After an early breakfast, we shall drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of Chimpanzee habituation where you will get to follow the chimps wake up from their nests and follow them as they go about their lives until evening when they make new nests to go to sleep. It is a whole days amazing experience as we encounter human closest cousins.

While in the jungle you have a chance to spot butterflies and bird species such as the native Great blue Turaco, joyful greenbul, olive long tailed cuckoo and the superb black bee eater and different tree species.

Day 4: Bigodi Swamp Walk, Transfer To Queen Elizabeth NP, Kazinga Channel Boat Trip

In the morning after our breakfast, we shall go for a guided walk in  Bigodi swamp to explore the scenic beauty and rich biodiversity of this wetland, which is also home to the Great Blue Turaco among other birds like papyrus Gonolek, Yellow billed Barbet, Kingfishers among other Uganda animals like Sitatungas, Bushbucks, Wild pigs and Otters and primates such as olive baboons, Red Tailed Monkeys, Red Colobos, Vervet, L’hoest, Black & White Colobus plus Blue Monkeys as you walk  through lush vegetation along the board walks.

After the swamp walk we start our journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. As we drive, we shall be able to spot Mountain Rwenzori ranges; the longest in Africa. We aim to reach the lodge on time for lunch and after prepare for ready for an afternoon boat trip on the famous Kazinga Channel which links Lake George and Lake Edward. During the boat trip, you have a chance to spot both land and water adapted Hippopotamuses yawning with some slashing canines to each other, the Nile Crocodiles along the banks, Warthog. Along the peninsula you have a stunning view of birds and animals that come to swim, sunbathe and quench their thirst.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking In Kyambura Gorge, Evening Village Crater Lake Walk

After our breakfast, we shall drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of Chimpanzee trekking. We shall be allocated a trekking group and ranger then start our trek into the forest to search for human closest cousins. Kyambura Gorge is a hidden gem in the savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The gorge is perfect for primate and other wildlife viewing like baboons, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys and colobus monkeys not forgetting the stunning view. If you love hiking, this will be a great experience. After the trek we go back to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation and later in the evening you will go for a guided community walk to get more experience and knowledge of the local community.

Day 6: Transfer To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Via Ishasha Sector

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast ahead of our journey to the southern of Queen Elizabeth NP; Ishasha sector. Along the journey, we have a chance to encounter elephants, monkeys, beautiful birds and even big cats like lions and leopard. We arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and then prepare to head out for a game drive in search for tree climbing lions that can be spotted lazily sleeping the fig trees. During the game drive we also have chance to see topis, buffaloes and lovely scenery.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After our breakfast, we shall drive to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. It is at this point that we shall be allocated a trekking group and ranger guide to start our journey into the forest. The forest is full of birds, butterfly and plant species plus forest hogs, forest Elephants, Statungas and Dikers which you will encounter during your trek. After the trek we shall go for lunch and enjoy a relaxed evening at the lodge.

Day 8: Transfer To Kisoro

Wake up to a relaxed breakfast while enjoying scenic views of Bwindi Forest NP and prepare to drive to Kisoro. It is an enjoyable drive as you go through scenic views of mountains. We shall check in in a hotel in town for an overnight ahead of the next day’s activities.

Day 9: Golden Monkey Tracking In Mgahinga NP, Transfer To Lake Bunyonyi

Wake up to a hot breakfast and later transfer to the park head offices for a briefing about the golden monkey trekking before you head to the thick bamboo forests to search for the monkeys. The trekking takes about 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the previous movement. 

You will be given one hour to spent and experience with the moneys, at this point feel free to pull out your cameras to capture your life time experience trekking the golden monkeys as they play and jump from one brunch to another, you will enjoy how they feed their young ones. After the trek, your guide will pick you and you drive back to the hotel for lunch and then start our journey to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi for a relaxed evening.

Day 10: Transfer To Rwanda/Kigali For Flight Back Home

We have come to the end of this amazing 10 Days Uganda Luxury Primate Safari and hopefully we have made some good memories to take with us back home. We shall wake up for breakfast and prepare to start our journey to Rwanda where we shall connect for flights back home at Kigali International Airport.
